Arsenal’s unbeaten streak couldn’t last forever, and that proved to be true on Sunday as a Marcus Rashford double sunk the previously perfect Gunners, with Martin Odegaard saying the side is “down” after the result.

Manchester United at Old Trafford is always a challenging task, regardless of how the home side is performing. Once billed as THE rivalry in English football, the shine has dissipated from the fixture somewhat over the last decade.

Heading into Sunday’s game, both teams were in good form with Arsenal winning their opening five games and United prevailing in their last three.

Aside from the opening 20 or so minutes, Arsenal were the dominant team. They controlled possession and had more shots but struggled to break down a stubborn United defence.

After Antony had given the hosts the lead, it was all Arsenal, and in the second half, Bukayo Saka brought his side level. However, the Gunners were on level terms for a matter of minutes as Rashford put the home side ahead before adding his second goal of the game to kill the contest off.

For Gunners skipper Martin Odegaard, the result was disappointing. The Norwegian spoke with arsenal.com post-game and said that the whole squad is a bit down as the game was there for the taking.

"“Everyone is super disappointed,” Odegaard said.“We always play to win, we wanted to come here and get a result.I feel like everyone feels like we should’ve got something out of the game. The game was there for us to take something, we’re all disappointed, the mood is a bit down but that’s how it is.“The first and the second goal, we had the momentum of the game, we let them score two easy goals. It’s frustrating and annoying but yeah as I said we should’ve got something out of the game.”"

Despite the loss, Arsenal are still top of the Premier League table, so it is not all doom and gloom. For Odegaard, it is about winning the next game on the schedule, which is in the Europa League against FC Zurich.

"“Yeah, of course, we have to look to the next one, we’re still on top of the league, he said.“We have to look for the next one, win that one, that’s all. There were a lot of good moments in the game as well, so we have to take those and learn from the bad ones as well. Then look for the next game.”"

After the Gunners’ midweek return to Europe, they will face Frank Lampard’s Everton at the Emirate next Sunday.
