Arsenal’s approach at Old Trafford was one focused on being proactive. The pressing and intensity fans saw in spurts last season has become commonplace. Leading this front-footed approach is Gabriel Jesus. Although it has been said after every game this season, Jesus has been transformational.

Tasked with being the focal point of the attack in a tough away game, Jesus displayed everything we have come to expect and he did so at an exceptional level. His pressing was up to its high standard but even more impressive was his physical robustness in backing into and turning defenders. Challenging and controlling the ball while being manhandled by the clumsy but tall duo of Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay is no easy task but one Jesus completed time and time again.

The Brazilian dropped to great effect as well, receiving the ball between the lines and moving it quickly. His athleticism in the final third added to fluidity along the front line. Quick layoffs and one touch passing allowed Arsenal to dominate proceedings but without that cutting edge needed to put games to bed.

While Jesus’ dribbling provides dynamism and excitement, the striker must learn when to pull the trigger. At a few key moments, Jesus was guilty of doing too much when a simpler option was on. Overall, Jesus had another brilliant game and hopefully his frustration will result in a first half hat trick against Everton next week.
