Following a brief hiatus, Arsenal are back in Premier League action this weekend as they make the trip to the Brentford Community Stadium on Sunday.

The passing of Queen Elizabeth II has seen the Gunners’ last two scheduled fixtures postponed, but the Premier League revealed earlier this week that Arsenal’s upcoming trip to Brentford is one of seven games going ahead in the top flight this weekend.

Their previous visit to the Community Stadium was nothing short of harrowing. Mikel Arteta’s side were bullied amid a 2-0 defeat on opening night last season, but the Gunners have evolved considerably since.

While they tasted defeat in the league last time out, Arsenal remain top of the Premier League table heading into Matchday 7.

Brentford, meanwhile, have also enjoyed a bright start to the new season and they currently sit eighth in the table. Thomas Frank’s side are built around the brilliance of Ivan Toney and the criminally underrated Bryan Mbuemo in attack, and the Bees are well-placed to take advantage of the Gunners’ weakness in defensive transition.

It’s poised to be a challenging outing for the away side.

Brentford Team News

Thomas Frank is still without Christian Norgaard in midfield as he continues to nurse an Achilles injury. Josh Dasilva, who was on the bench last time out, could come into Brentford’s three-man midfield and replace Sheldon Baptiste.

Ethan Pinnock (knee) and Sergi Canos (thigh) remain sidelined for the Bees.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Frank switch to a back three for Sunday’s game which could mean that Kristoffer Ajer returns to the XI. Keane Lewis-Potter may miss out as a result.

Arsenal Team News

Thomas Partey returned to training ahead of the postponed Everton clash and has been named in the Ghana squad for their upcoming friendlies. The midfielder’s missed the Gunners’ last four games with a thigh injury, but he’s back in contention for Sunday’s trip to west London.

There isn’t too much else for Mikel Arteta to be concerned about on the injury front. Reiss Nelson and Mohamed Elneny are long-term absentees.

Partey’s likely return will see Sambi Lokonga drop to the bench.

Brentford have proven many people wrong at the start of 2022/23. Thomas Frank has adopted a more aggressive 4-3-3 at times this season, but I suspect he might return to the three-at-the-back set-up we saw for much of last season.

In Ivan Toney, the Bees are blessed with an absolute star and the home side are more than capable of exploiting the Gunners in transition. Although, the return of Thomas Partey will aid Arsenal’s ability to defend the counter-attack.

This is a tricky game for Mikel Arteta’s men and they don’t have fond memories of the Brentford Community Stadium. The Bees are physical, astute tactically, and tough to beat on home soil. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Gunners are a little rusty in a score draw.

Prediction: Brentford 1-1 Arsenal
