Gabriel Martinelli wants to sign a new deal with Arsenal
Gabriel Martinelli has said he wants to stay at Arsenal but reports have emerged regarding the Brazilian’s lofty contract demands.
Martinelli has played a crucial role for the Gunners at the start of the 2022/23 season and he produced his most impressive performance in an Arsenal shirt at the weekend as Mikel Arteta’s table-toppers beat Liverpool 3-2.
It was a significant victory for Arteta’s side, with Jurgen Klopp having only been defeated by the Gunners once in the Premier League during his seven-year stay on Merseyside before Sunday’s clash.
Martinelli notched a goal and an assist in the memorable triumph as he took his goal contributions tally up to six through nine games this season. The 21-year-old is coming of age in north London, and supporters would love to see the relentless winger pen a long-term contract extension with the club.
Gabriel Martinelli wants to sign a new deal with Arsenal
Martinelli is one of three Arsenal stars whose contracts are expiring in 2024. However, it’s believed that the Gunners have the option to extend the deals of William Saliba and Bukayo Saka by an extra year. In Martinelli’s case, they could extend it by two.
The player himself has already declared that he wants to stay in north London, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that negotiations over a contract extension have been ongoing for “weeks”.
However, some fans might be a tad concerned by the exclusive report produced by the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, who understands that an “agreement is not close” between Martinelli and Arsenal over an extension.
Mokbel adds that the player wants to become one of the club’s top earners and potentially join the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey in earning in excess of £200,000 a week. Martinelli currently earns £70,000 a week.
"“Of course, I want to stay. We are talking. Let’s see what is going to happen, but I want to stay, of course,” said Martinelli after the Liverpool victory.“I think it’s my best season here at Arsenal. I’m so happy for this moment. I think Arsenal is a big club and we have a lot of good players.”"
Nevertheless, Arsenal are in no rush to extend the young Brazilian’s deal and the player’s desire to stay at the Emirates should ensure that supporters aren’t panicking over his future.
