Premier League leaders Arsenal are back on the road this weekend as they make the trip down south to take on Southampton.

The Gunners secured progression into the Europa League knockout stages in the week with a 1-0 win over PSV amid a dominant performance from Mikel Arteta’s side. Their recent victories over Bodø/Glimt and Leeds were unconvincing, to say the least, but Thursday’s performance and subsequent triumph was a return to the norm.

Arteta’s men are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but their deficit is poised to be trimmed down to one with Manchester City taking on Brighton at home the day before Arsenal’s clash.

The Gunners tasted defeat at St. Mary’s last season and don’t have the fondest of memories at this ground in recent years.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s young Saints side are 14th in the table heading into Sunday’s game having taken four points from their last two outings.

Southampton Team News

The Saints have several injury concerns heading into Sunday’s game.

Hasenhuttl confirmed that Kyle Walker-Peters will be sidelined for a lengthy period after he picked up an injury in the draw with West Ham on Wednesday. The former Spurs full-back joints Armel Bella-Kotchap, Tino Livramento and Romeo Lavia on the sidelines.

Arsenal loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also ineligible to face his former club.

Arsenal Team News

Gabriel Martinelli has been struggling with illness in the week but he came off the bench against PSV and should be good to go on Sunday.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is edging closer to making his return and the Ukrainian could make Arteta’s matchday squad for the trip to St. Mary’s. Kieran Tierney is vying for a starting berth at left-back.

Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny remain out for the visitors.

Prediction

Arsenal may well have had their issues at St. Mary’s in the past, but they should be able to claim all three points here with Southampton having several key players out.

The Saints can be a tricky opponent, however, but the Gunners possess the requisite structure and technical security to bypass their press and assert total control on Sunday.

I think this one ends with a pretty comfortable away victory.

Prediction: Southampton 1-3 Arsenal
