Arsenal trio Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, and Bukayo Saka have been named in England’s 2022 World Cup squad.

The three players have each played a key role in the Premier League-leading Gunners’ success this season and are fully deserving of their spots on the plane to Qatar.

Gareth Southgate named his 26-man England squad on Thursday afternoon, a few days before the deadline, ahead of the tournament’s start on 20 November. The Three Lions play their first group game a day later against Iran.

Southgate threw up a couple of surprises with his squad selection, with the previously overlooked Callum Wilson and James Maddison making the cut. Ivan Toney and Tammy Abraham, meanwhile, missed out.

There was no room for Fikayo Tomori or Marc Guehi, but Eric Dier has been selected despite his poor run of form over the past month. Arsenal’s White was rightfully one of the nine defenders picked by Southgate following his excellent start to the campaign at right-back.

However, the Gunners defender is unlikely to earn many minutes at the tournament, especially with Kyle Walker returning to the fold.

Ramsdale will play in reserve to undisputed number one Jordan Pickford, while Saka will be fighting Phil Foden for a starting spot in Southgate’s starting XI. The two young attacking talents have enjoyed fine seasons up to this point, but Saka appears to be a better fit for the right-sided attacking role in England’s 3-4-3.

The English trio are three of many Arsenal players that are heading to the World Cup. While some squad announcements are pending, the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba, Matt Turner, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Granit Xhaka have each been selected by their respective nations.

Those selected have just one more game to get through as the Gunners travel to Molineux on Saturday night.
