Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli is reportedly close to penning a contract extension with the club that’ll keep him in north London until 2027.

The Brazilian is one of several key young cornerstones the club are hoping to tie down for the long haul in 2023 with the winger’s current deal expiring in June 2024. Martinelli has come on leaps and bounds in the past 18 months and the Gunners are keen to reward the 21-year-old’s development with a lucrative new contract.

Some reports have suggested Arsenal could offer Martinelli around £200,000-a-week to convince him to stay at the Emirates.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport (via GOAL), Arsenal are close to agreeing a long-term contract extension with Martinelli. The 21-year-old has previously spoken of his desire to remain in north London for the long haul, and this appears to be a deal the Gunners should be able to strike in the coming weeks.

Martinelli has been in sensational form this season after impressing in spells last term. The Brazilian scored five times for the Premier League leaders in their opening 14 games and his productive run saw him earn a call-up to the Brazilian World Cup squad.

Moreover, Barcelona have reportedly been keeping a close eye on his progress and were considering a move in 2023. However, the likelihood of Martinelli’s contract extension at Arsenal means La Blaugrana will probably have to explore alternative targets.

A new deal for the Brazilian would be massive news for the Gunners, who have two of Europe’s most exciting young wingers on their books. The club are hopeful of tying down William Saliba and Bukayo Saka alongside Martinelli with these three players potentially making up an incredibly strong core at the Emirates for years to come.

Supporters will be hoping to see Martinelli back in action on Boxing Day as West Ham make the trip to north London.
