Arsenal are set to let Cedric Soares join Fulham on loan this month, but are hopeful of bringing in a talented young replacement for the right-back before the deadline.

The Gunners’ transfer window burst into life last week when deals for Brighton winger Leandro Trossard and Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior were struck. The latter’s signature was completed on Monday after Trossard made his debut in the thrilling 3-2 victory over Man Utd.

However, the club’s business in the transfer market doesn’t appear to be over. Mikel Arteta said ahead of Friday’s FA Cup clash with Man City that more cover might be required in midfield, while reports suggest a move will be made at right-back should Cedric complete his loan to Fulham.

Cedric has been linked with the Cottagers for a couple of months now, but there’s no guarantee the former Southampton defender will emerge as a starter in west London. While he’s certainly likely to earn more minutes at Craven Cottage compared to the Emirates, Kenny Tete will be a hard man to displace in Marco Silva’s starting XI.

Nevertheless, ESPN reported on Wednesday morning that Fulham are expected to complete the signing of the 31-year-old after the two clubs agreed on a six-month loan deal with no option to buy the player permanently at the end of the season.

Fulham will cover Cedric’s wages in full, and Arsenal are expected to review the defender’s future in the summer.

The Gunners have been linked with a long-term replacement in the form of Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda. Arsenal are said to have agreed terms with the player, but he’s also received an offer from Borussia Dortmund and is yet to make his final decision.

Even if Fresneda signed for the club this month, it’s likely that Arsenal would loan the teenager back to Valladolid for the remainder of the season. The Gunners are yet to make an official offer for the right-back, but this deal could gather pace in the wake of Cedric’s departure.
