Granit Xhaka’s production at the start of the season was nothing less than astounding. Scoring more goals than he had in previous years combined, fans were ecstatic at the possibility of this trend continuing throughout the season. Even though most fans would admit that such a possibility was more of a wish than anything, few could have seen what would occur: goals drying up completely.

The Swiss international’s last goal came against Southampton on 23 October. Since then, he has continued to start the vast majority of games with his play in and around the box starting to falter.

The recent missed chance against Fulham comes to mind but this is only one of several situations that he has failed to make the best of in 2023. The midfield player must be upgraded in the summer. Finding a more technically adept option that can still provide work-rate and defensive commitment is easier said than done. But if anyone can find that player, it is Mikel Arteta and Edu.

Arsenal have taken a massive leap forward in their development this season. Originally expected to fight for the Champions League, they find themselves chasing the title. No matter how the season ends, Arsenal must continue to strengthen to ensure that they can continue to challenge for the title season after season. There is no doubt that they can do so.
