Aaron Ramsdale is currently not a transfer target for London rivals Chelsea as speculation regarding his future in north London ramps up.

Having spent two seasons as the Gunners’ number one, Ramsdale has been usurped by summer arrival David Raya. Raya joined from Brentford on an initial loan and has assumed number one duties since being integrated into Mikel Arteta’s favoured XI.

The Spaniard, though, is yet to convince in Arsenal colours, while Ramsdale endured a miserable night on his return to the starting XI on Wednesday as the Gunners bowed out of the Carabao Cup following a 3-1 defeat to West Ham.

Aaron Ramsdale currently NOT a Chelsea target

Ramsdale has spoken about his desire to regain his number-one status for the sake of his England career. However, with Arteta unlikely to swap goalkeepers anytime soon, it looks as if Ramsdale is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines while Raya enjoys the lion’s share of the minutes between the sticks.

Given his current status, transfer speculation regarding Ramsdale has increased in recent weeks. Some suggested Chelsea, who signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer, could make a move for the 25-year-old, although securing the goalkeeper’s services in January will prove tricky.

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Ramsdale isn’t yet on Chelsea’s transfer list, with no negotiations between the London clubs taking place.

While Arsenal may be reluctant to let Ramsdale depart, the goalkeeper himself could force a move should he deem it necessary for the sake of his career. How keen the England international is to depart the club will depend on whether his situation changes over the coming weeks and months.

You would think that if the Englishman makes it clear that he wants to leave, a whole host of Premier League clubs would boast some sort of interest. Ramsdale’s rise coincided with Arsenal’s improvement under Arteta, and there’s no denying that, despite the odd error, the goalkeeper performed superbly while he was the club’s number one.

There are simply attributes Raya boasts which the boss believes will thrust Arsenal to the Premier League title.
