Positive #2: Jorginho offered a reminder of his value
There are mitigating factors, but Jorginho hasn't played enough this season. To be fair to Arteta, he can be forgiven for keeping cotton wool around a 32-year-old who looks like a sustained shuttle run would put him on the retirement list.
Yet age and athleticism be damned, Jorginho is still awfully good at this football lark. He hasn't lost the knack for modulating the pace of a game with his steady and efficient distribution.
The smart way Jorginho kept the ball moving was missed once Arteta had to give him the hook. What the manager needs is a more effective way to take some of the physical aspects of playing deep off Jorginho's plate.
Finding ways to protect him is worth it because Jorginho's shrewd passing gets Arsenal flowing through the middle of the park. While he won't win any footraces, the Gunners' deep-lying playmaker makes his team quicker to get forward.
The ball arriving sooner in the final third means more touches for Arsenal's true difference-makers. One of those was in imperious form against Forest.
Positive #3: Martin Odegaard's already making a difference
An assist helped earn a point at Chelsea, but Odegaard looked all the way back from injury against Forest. The keen eye for exploiting angles didn't let him down, while his technique threading passes between the lines was close to flawless.
These are the things Odegaard does better than anybody in the squad. He adds something artful to the industry Arteta has prized above all.
Odegaard's artistry is just as important as a more secure back line and greater aggression off the ball. Those things will give the Gunners a chance in a lot of games, but it will be magic from Odegaard and Saka that actually wins the points Arsenal need for the title.
