2. He has a bad injury record

For a team that employs Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey, adding another player with a chequered injury past is not what Arsenal need.

Isak might fare somewhat better in that regard than the above trio, but there remains a considerable cause for concern. The 25-year-old is currently sidelined with a toe injury (he has already missed the last two matches for Newcastle) and that adds to the groin issues which ruled him out for long spells in 2023/24.

Overall, as per Transfermarkt, he has been absent for 36 games – for club and country combined – since moving to England in 2022 and this sort of regular unavailability should send alarm bells ringing across north London.

Although injuries are part and parcel of football, Isak seems to be plagued by them and that reality, alongside his aforementioned weaknesses, could prove just enough to make Arsenal steer well clear next summer.
