Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia and reports claim they have recently struck an agreement on personal terms with him.

The Gunners have identified the Spanish youth international as their preferred option as they look to bring a new defensive signing to the club this summer and it would appear they are progressing well in their attempts to secure his signature.

Signing a new defender was one of Arsenal's priorities during this transfer window and they look to have settled on Mosquera. As they edge closer to a deal, there are three reasons why he would be a smart signing for the Gunners.

Mosquera is a right footed defender and that should bode well as Arsenal look to add more quality depth to their backline.

A right sided backup is something the Gunners have been missing since William Saliba broke into the first team just under three years ago. They have Ben White and Jurrien Timber to call on, but both work better operating as right backs while Takehiro Tomiyasu's fitness issues have prevented him from appearing for the side.

The Spaniard will be utilised as a second-choice option and having him available for selection means Mikel Arteta can rest Saliba when needed without weakening the ability of White or Timber. He will be a more suitable option than Jorrel Hato, who is left footed and would provide the same cover as Jakub Kiwior already does.
