Arsenal continued their unbeaten run in the Champions League opening phase, despite the tough fixture at the Allianz Arena. The hosts were without key players due to a combination of injuries, suspensions and personal reasons - that said, Arsenal weren't best placed to capitalise on that, either. They were without William Saliba due to injury, and Bukayo Saka went off for a non-contact injury early in the match.
For the neutral, it was a great display of football. For the Arsenal fan, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. Here are our 3 winners and 2 losers from the third Champions League game of the season.
Winner #1 - Declan Rice
Declan Rice was signed to show up on big Champions League nights like this, and that's exactly what he did (yet again).
Rice clawed back the point for Arsenal on a big European away night with an excellent finish, but that wasn't even his best involvement. Throughout the entirety of the match, the England international was here, there and everywhere. Heck, I even remember him tracking Alphonso Davies - a near impossible task in itself.
No question, Arsenal's Man of the Match was a big winner.
Loser #1 - Bukayo Saka
Through no fault of his own, Bukayo Saka lost out in this game. Shortly into the match, Saka was clearly uncomfortable due to a non-contact injury he sustained. He had no choice but to be hooked off, and now Arsenal await further diagnosis.
In his place, Arteta has options. It is obviously not nice, but Arsenal can at least cope while Saka recovers from his injury. Regardless, we can't help but feel like this is a step back in Saka's rehabilitation from previous injury concerns.
Winner #2 - Eberechi Eze
All eyes were on Eze, and he gave those eyes reason to be on him.
It was a rough weekend for Eze, with many questioning his place in this Arsenal squad. Those questions were answered at the Allianz Arena.
A perfectly timed run left him through on goal, and he beat Manuel Neuer at his far post. That was the shot of a player whose eyes had clearly lit up, and he's put himself on a pedestal to compete for that left spot yet again.
Loser #2 - Jurrien Timber
Jurrien Timber is one of the best right-backs in world football, but last night was a night to forget him.
Now just for committing the handball to gift Bayern Munich a penalty, but also for being run ragged by Alphonso Davies throughout the match. Timber lost that battle, but it doesn't harm his place in the Arsenal team realistically.
Timber will pick himself up, brush himself off, and be prepared to bring his A-game to Arsenal again at the weekend. It was simply a bad night for an excellent player; everybody has them sometimes.
Winner #3 - David Raya
You will rarely see praise for a goalkeeper who concedes twice, but it was a stellar night for the best goalkeeper in the world. He was beaten by a penalty and a great pass that left him one-on-one. There wasn't much he could do about that.
Some game-defining saves from Raya added to the highlight reel of this incredible matchup. Oh, and by the way, I must say I'm becoming a massive fan of the hairdo.
