A Jurrien Timber take that the Premier League is not ready for

Arsenal have a truly world class squad at the moment. They have great players in almost every position. In fact, they have some of the best players in the world in almost every position.

David Raya is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Their centre-backs are probably the best in the world. Calafiori is definitely one of the better left-backs in the Premier League. Declan Rice is one of the best midfielders in the world. Bukayo Saka, obviously, up there as well.

And, so is Jurrien Timber.

Seriously, though, Jurrien Timber is exceptional. One of the best players in his position, and he has also managed to displace Ben White, who was a great Premier League right-back when he was fit, like it was no one.

Obviously, injuries have slowed White down, but Timber has definitely earned that position. People forget that he had an ACL injury not long after he joined the club, so to recover from an injury like that as well as he has, and improve as a player every passing game is ridiculous.

Jurrien Timber is a top-two right-back in the Premier League, and he could even be top one

I think Timber is a top-two right-back in the Premier League. And, here's the take, there is an argument to be made about him not being number two.

Reece James - whose team Arsenal will face on Sunday - is the player that people think of as the best right-back in the Premier League, and rightfully so - when he is fit, he is usually most natural right-back in the competition - and he is one of the best.

But that's the thing: it is a huge if. Reece James has had so many injury issues in his two to three years.

Last season, his numbers still improved and he played more games than before, but if you compare the two players since Timber returned from his ACL injury, Reece James has missed considerably more games than Timber has.

Reece James has missed 26 games since the start of last season, while Timber has only missed 14. ACL injury is a long-term layoff that is not really due to any underlying issues. It can happen to anyone, and it is equally likely to happen to anyone. It is a freak injury. What Reece James has been going through in these last few seasons has been related to muscles.

Injuries are not the only factor that comes into this, though. Timber has scored three goals and provided two assists so far this season. while Reece James has a goal and three assists.

Timber has been better defensively, as he is the starting right-back in the world's best defensive team. He holds his own against the best wingers on the planet with ease. Reece James, as good as he is, has not been as good in that sense.

Going forward, I do think Reece James has more potential. He has provided more assists and in general is the bigger threat in attack, but even in that regard, Timber - who is originally a centre-back - is slowly improving every single game.

So, I'm not saying he's the best. I'm not saying he is the second best. I am saying there is an argument that can be made for him to be the best right-back in the league. For the rest of the Premier League, it will be a hot take. However, for Arsenal, they would back their boy.
