Former footballer Alan Shearer has indicated that Arsenal's Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on the weekend would be a huge factor in the Gunners' potential quadruple charge.
Arsenal are currently fighting in all four competitions they started playing in at the start of the season. They are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the final of the Carabao Cup and are also the leaders of the Premier League by nine points.
They may or may not win every single competition that is mentioned here, but it is certainly clear that what they are doing is working, and they will continue to fight for every single title until they are physically and practically incapable of doing so.
Obviously, a lot of things will need to go their way, and they are not going to win everything there is to win after one game, but Shearer mentioned just how much of importance that game carries. Not just from a trophy cabinet perspective, but also mentally.
Alan Shearer reveals the game that Arsenal's quadruple charge relies on
He said: “If Arsenal win the Carabao Cup, the quadruple is seriously on. And it’s a big if because it’s a huge game, a huge game for both clubs, because this probably is City’s last chance in terms of silverware.
"It’s a huge game for both clubs, but yeah, if Arsenal win this one, then the talk will intensify of winning four trophies, which clearly has never been done before.”
The way in which Arsenal are able to just get results when they need them, this might actually end up happening.
It is clear that Arsenal are hunting for silverware this season. They are so close to winning it on the weekend, and to finally break the curse of not being able to win a major trophy since Mikel Arteta helped the club win the FA Cup in his first year in charge.
Since then, it has been a really long wait for the club, and even when they looked close to be winning it all, they ended up falling short.
With all that in mind, if Arteta's side are able to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday, it lifts a burden off of these players' shoulders. They will have finally won a trophy, breaking through the pressure that has been invited onto their heads for the longest time.
It will also give Arsenal a mental edge over Manchester City - should they win the game, they will also be confident enough to win in the Premier League to solidify their Premier League title run.
That would indeed give them much-needed confidence to win everything they are setting out to achieve, but that, once again, is a huge if, because just as it can push them to victory in other competitions, it can also, just as easily, push them into feeling even more pressure if they lose.
