Arsenal continued their winning start to pre-season as they came from behind to beat Newcastle 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the game, the Gunners unveiled new signing Viktor Gyokeres to supporters after his move from Sporting was officially announced last night.
Their start to the match wasn't as positive as that news however as Anthony Elanga put the Magpies ahead inside six minutes. Newcastle's new signing worked his way into the Arsenal penalty box to get on the end of a Kieran Trippier cross and beat David Raya with a scuffed shot.
The Gunners began to push for an equaliser and found a breakthrough just after the half-hour mark. Mikel Merino won possession back in the midfield and played to Leandro Trossard. The Belgian found Kai Havertz on the edge of the box, who played a deft backheel for Merino to fire in the leveller with a first-time strike.
Mikel Arteta's side completed a swift turnaround within minutes when Trossard won a free kick down the left flank that he played quickly to Havertz. The German sent a powerful cross into the box that Alex Murphy turned into his own net to put Arsenal ahead going into half-time.
Newcastle pushed to find their own equaliser after the break and it came 12 minutes into the second half when Jacob Murphy fired in an effort from long range, beating a flailing Raya. Young striker Will Osula then went close to putting his side back in front when he headed just wide of the post from a Murphy cross.
Arsenal's own talent Max Dowman came off the bench and immediately looked impressive, just as he did in the win over AC Milan. He almost put his side ahead on multiple occasions, but saw his efforts thwarted by Nick Pope and John Ruddy.
He did contribute eventually however when he skipped into the Newcastle box before being fouled by Joelinton to win a penalty in the late stages of the game. Captain Martin Odegaard stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and fired in to win the game for his side.
That's now two wins out of two for Arsenal in pre-season and they will be looking to continue their great start when they take on north London rivals Tottenham next week.
