Arsenal will abandon failed Mikel Arteta transfer in summer (and rightly so)

Mikel Arteta has got most things right at Arsenal. Nine times out of ten, he has made the right decisions and said the right things. Even if it doesn't appear that way initially, the Spanish coach has Arsenal's best interest at heart, and it rings true in the long run.

However, Arteta isn't perfect; nobody is. Even if his hair is perfecto (there's a throwback for you), there have been times when he's been rushed into decisions and in turn, those decisions have harmed Arsenal.

One of those decisions unfortunately came in the recent summer transfer window, when Raheem Sterling was signed on loan from Chelsea. In hindsight, this was a panic signing and one which made little to no sense for the Gunners. Now, the decision will be rectified in the next transfer window.

Arsenal will abandon Raheem Sterling in summer (and rightly so)

According to a report from Football Insider, Arsenal has no plans to sign Raheem Sterling on a permanent basis when his loan ends in the summer. Instead, he will return to Chelsea, who will be able to decide his future.

It would be incredibly confusing if Arsenal signed Raheem Sterling permanently. He has not done anything to justify the permanent switch and if anything, he has only held the Gunners back whenever he's played.

In truth, Sterling has left a lot to be desired. On the rare occasion that he's played, he's found himself in some promising positions, but this comes as part and parcel of being an attacker in this talented Arsenal lineup. When he's found himself in those positions, he has often let the crowd down and left a "for crying out loud" feeling in the stands.

This has been an indicative tale of Raheem Sterling over the last few seasons. He was obviously an exceptional player at his peak when working under the close mentorship of Mikel Arteta at Man City, but since then, he's been lacklustre.

So, it is the right decision for Arsenal to allow him back to Chelsea. Actually, he should've never joined Arsenal, but that's a story for a different day.
