Arsenal apologizes to Atlético Madrid for something that no $3.4b club can justify

Who needs hot showers anyway?

Mikel Arteta clearly knows about the value of a good shower. It's undeniably one of the main components to ensuring his hair is, and always will be, perfecto.

However, Arsenal were the figures of public embarrassment after they failed to ensure tonight's opponents, Atlético Madrid, had hot showers after their training session.

According to Charles Watts, Atlético Madrid staff noticed the hot water problem at 6:45pm last night and reported it to Arsenal, who promised to have it fixed by 7:30pm, when Atlético's training session was scheduled to finish.

However, for whatever reason, Atlético finished their training session early and, naturally, were greeted to no hater water in their changing room showers.

Arsenal has apologized to Atlético for the inconvenience. That's all well and good, but nobody can deny that Atlético finishing ahead of time threw a spanner in the works that Arsenal could not control.

Arsenal take the Wim Hof approach to beating Atlético Madrid

Regardless of who is to blame, it paints Arsenal in a bad light that they didn't have hot water readily available. These things happen, but they are far less likely to happen at a club that Forbes values at $3.4 billion.

We all know that Mikel Arteta is a master of strange coaching philosophies. We know about the light buld dressing room talk, and we know about his plans to speak to the RAF pilots to learn a thing or two about coaching Arsenal.

However, we wouldn't even point the finger at Mikel Arteta for this one. After all, he wouldn't mess with anybody's haircare routine. That's simply a step too far.

So, this was a complete oversight. Still, it is pretty comical to watch it all unfold, as this is something you expect to see in your family home, not at a club as large as Arsenal is, especially in preparation for such a huge game in the Champions League.

Anyway, a bit of comedic respite is all well and good.

Would you take a footballer's paycheque if it meant being limited to cold showers for life?

It certainly doesn't sound appealing, but we know one man who would. Here's our bold prediction on Mikel Arteta's next bizarre coaching method: Welcome to the Emirates Stadium, Wim Hof!
