Mikel Arteta has never shied away from the unorthodox.

The Spanish coach is completely revolutionizing the way Arsenal is coached, and during this process, he has taken the rule book and ripped it up.

Those who watched the All or Nothing documentary on Amazon Prime a few seasons ago will have been taken by total surprise by not only Arteta's messaging, but how he delivers it.

Yes, Arteta is the guy who brought a lightbulb into the dressing room and used Thomas Edison's physics to somehow relate to football.

While it hasn't led to trophies, nobody can deny that Arsenal is a better club ever since Mikel Arteta returned as the manager.

Will that sentiment still be felt after his latest tactic?

Mikel Arteta wants to learn from the RAF

As pointed out by Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Mikel Arteta is planning on inviting some Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter pilots to Arsenal to improve the way he communicates with players.

The report came from a talk Mikel Arteta gave on leadership. He was asked about where his curiosity has taken him in leadership, and obviously, the answer was anywhere and everywhere.

Arteta's curiosity is currently deeply rooted in communication - moreover, how his messaging can be delivered and received at every level at Arsenal.

In his own words, Arteta said: “[Curiosity has taken me] to many places. It’s a constant improvement. I can wake up one day and say ‘my process on match day is not good enough. Why we are communicating to the players, starting from between us coaches to the analysts, to the other guys, to actually how the message is delivered. I don’t like it. Who is the best at that?’”

“So, the British fighter planes, for example, I will get in touch with those guys, how they communicate, because that is life or death. I’m sure they don’t use 20 phrases or 20 words if there is one word. Don’t say ‘nah, the wind is coming this way, now you have to turn left’, because boom, dead. So, it will be one word.”

Yes, Mikel Arteta did just say he wants to talk with the RAF to learn how they communicate.

As fans, we might hear about this and laugh. But as players, they'll know that Arteta is serious. He always wants to level his team up, and if the answers come outside of football, then so be it.

Mikel Arteta has already pioneered a few ideas at Arsenal, some of which were learned during his time under the best manager of all time, Pep Guardiola.

However, Pep Guardiola is only the best of all time in one sport, in one very niche field of the world. Arteta's next learning might come from the Royal Air Force.
