Arsenal have a very deep squad now. This is what Mikel Arteta has wanted ever since he joined the club in 2019. Everyone knows how bad those times were, and slowly but surely, bit by bit, Arsenal have finally made a squad that is good and deep in every position.
They have some of the best players in the world in almost every position on the pitch, and they also have really good backups to those special players. That has made their title aspirations, as well as their Champions League aspirations, actually achievable.
But it does not happen without their players. Arsenal have so many of these good players, and those players are just really, really talented.
Arsenal are flying, and some players are paying the price
Some of those players have not played much. For example, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have not been featuring as much as they were last season.
They haven't been playing because some of the players that Arsenal signed can also play in the positions they usually excel in. However, they are still really, really important players to the project.
They would not want to get rid of these two that quickly. They are still teenagers - let's not take that for granted.
Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of the most talented and versatile players that England has to offer at the moment. Nwaneri is also really good in his own right.
And even though they have not played as much as they would have wanted, they are still good additions to the team.
These two players naturally feature on several clubs' wanted lists in January, according to Gunners' Blog, but Arsenal are reluctant to let go of any of these players because the season is long. There is no reason for them to leave the club at this moment, especially when Arsenal need all hands on deck.
Even the players that play a few minutes every game, Arsenal would want them to be available whenever they need them to be. And I think that's not up for discussion.
Arsenal have been one of the best teams in the world, but that is also due to the fact that they have a deep squad. This deep squad will really, really push them past their own limits.
I don't blame Arteta at all. Obviously, these two players need to be playing more. Their talent warrants them to be playing more than they have. But letting go of even one player when things are generally working really well for the team means changing something that's not broken. And I think that's something that Arteta just would not do.
