Arsenal have missed out on signing Morgan Rogers following a shock hijack by Chelsea and are now running the risk of the same happening with fellow winger target Bradley Barcola.

The Gunners had been eyeing a move for the Aston Villa star and were reportedly set to accelerate talks, but were beaten to his signature in a surprise strike by their London rivals that has seen them land his services with a bid worth a record £117million.

Naturally, Mikel Arteta's side must now be exploring alternatives to bolster their attack, but they appear to gambling with the danger of missing out on Barcola in the same fashion.

It has been two days since David Ornstein first broke the devastating news that Arsenal would not be signing Rogers after Chelsea swooped in to snatch him from underneath their nose, but there doesn't seem to be any urgency to target another option just yet.

Barcola has been linked with the Gunners throughout the summer and was named by many as being the backup option if a deal for his Aston Villa never materialised, and that is exactly what has happened, but Arteta's side don't appear to be acting on their interest.

Many fans felt the Premier League champions weren't quick enough in their attempts to sign Rogers and that proved to be fatal, and there is now a concern that the same is happening with Barcola.

In Fabrizio Romano's latest update, he revealed there have been no fresh contacts between the North Londoners and Paris Saint-Germain or Barcola's camp while Liverpool are continuing to target the French international if the price is affordable.

Both clubs are also interested in signing Yan Diomandé from RB Leipzig, but he agreed personal terms with PSG in June with the club now working to find an agreement with the two-time DFB-Pokal winners.

That means Barcola is likely the sole winger option for both Arsenal and Liverpool at this current time and with the former yet to make any fresh approach, there will be concerns among the fanbase that it is Andoni Iraola's side who are in a better position to secure the signing.

The Gunners seriously need to act swiftly to avoid suffering the same transfer defeat as they did to Chelsea with Rogers. Missing out on one key target to a major rival due to acting too slowly is one thing, but to do it twice over would be disastrous.

Arteta's side must begin to make genuine approaches for Barcola while also exploring alternatives because they simply can't afford to miss out on another huge opportunity to sign such a talent, especially to a fellow Premier League 'big six' club.
