Arsenal is open to selling Ben White if the price is right. However, it is more expected that he will stay until at least the summer, when there will be talks involving his future.
That's according to Daily Mail journalist Isaan Khan, and the news comes after many Arsenal fans wondered what the future would hold for White.
So far this season, White has only started four games for Arsenal (two in the Carabao Cup, one in the Premier League and one in the Champions League). He is second fiddle at best, and Jurrien Timber is the preferred option in his usual right-back slot.
Arsenal is prolonging the inevitable and reducing Ben White's value
We have said it before, but there's a very slim likelihood that Ben White makes the Arsenal starting lineup on a routine basis. If he were to return to his former position in the squad, it would be to the Gunners' detriment, since the only way he returns is by a Timber injury.
Therefore, it makes little to no sense why Arsenal would want to keep Ben White. He is the second choice, and they won't make him the first choice. It would benefit all parties if Arsenal were to sell White and sign a replacement with the money they make.
What this decision likely means is that Arsenal is not confident about finding a suitor. It's always more difficult to find a suitor in January, with most clubs doing the largest chunk of their business in the summer instead.
Nevertheless, waiting until the summer transfer window is self-defeating. Ben White's stock value is already plummeting due to the lack of minutes, and that won't get any better between January and the end of the season.
One thing that Arsenal does have working for them is that Ben White is under contract until 2028. Therefore, the Gunners are not in any rush to sell him due to contract matters.
Arsenal has improved in many areas in recent history, but one thing they've struggled with is making enough money on their sales.
The good part is that not many key players have been sold recently, but the bad part is that Arsenal don't count their sales seriously. It's for this reason that they have one of the worst net spends in the Premier League right now.
Obviously, the finance experts know more than we ever could. But from a fan perspective, it's frustrating to see Arsenal wait on a sale that is written in the stars.
