Arsenal's Bukayo Saka reflects on 'Fun' West Ham demolition
By Adam Schultz
Bukayo Saka continued his sizzling form with another outstanding display in the 5-2 rout of West Ham at London Stadium.
Arsenal climbed to second in the Premier League after a 5-2 thumping of West Ham that had Bukayo Saka's fingerprints all over it.
His pinpoint corner found Gabriel as the Brazilian headed home inside 10 minutes to give the Gunners the lead. He was provider again after getting on the end of Martin Odegaard's delightful dink before squaring the ball perfectly to Leandro Trossard as the Gunners doubled their lead.
Then, he won a penalty, which Odegaard converted before scoring his own after Gabriel was fouled by Lukas Fabianski on the stroke of half-time and yes, Saka converted.
Such was the level of dominance from the Gunners, Bukayo was left with one overriding thought about the 5-2 win.
“It was a lot of fun, [we scored] a lot of goals and, yeah, we enjoyed it,” Saka said via arsenal.com. “We’ve been playing like that the last few games, scoring a lot of goals. We’re in good form, good confidence and we’re enjoying our football. We’ve built a lot of momentum now, we’ve played really well the last three games, not just the results were good but also the way we played so we’re happy, we’re confident and we’re going to take it into the next game which, we know is a big one. We’re feeling good, we’re feeling ready for it, confident, so, let’s go!”
With his goal and two assists, it now takes Saka's total to 10 assists and five goals in just 12 games as he continues to show why he is one of the best in the world. One of the main beneficiaries of Odegaard's return, Saka, has been a dominant force lately, with two goals and three assists in his last two games.
The win over West Ham now moves Arsenal up to second in the league table prior to Liverpool and Manchester City's clash, and the Gunners are now beginning to put the pressure on their title rivals.
While it is great to see Arsenal's resurgence after the international break, the hope is that Mikel Arteta's team hasn't left themselves with too much to do to reel in Liverpool, who are currently six points ahead with a game in hand.
But if the Gunners and Saka continue to play in this manner, they will feel very confident of overtaking Liverpool.
Up next is Manchester United. Buckle up.
