Arsenal have officially confirmed that Gabriel Jesus will undergo surgery on the ACL injury he sustained at the weekend.

The Brazilian collapsed in a heap when attempting to challenge Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the Arsenal box in the first half of Arsenal's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

Jesus was stretchered off and Mikel Arteta was far from optimistic when discussing the forward's condition post-match.

“Big worry, that’s my feeling," the boss said.

The signs pointed towards an ACL tear/rupture, and Arsenal have confirmed worst-case scenario.

"Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

"Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

"We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible," the statement concluded.

Jesus has been out of luck in Arsenal colours, with the knee injury sustained during the 2022 World Cup altering his fortunes in north London having helped shift expectations following an inspired start to the 2022/23 campaign. He's suffered multiple setbacks since, and his ACL tear has arrived in the wake of a goalscoring resurgence.

His timely upsurge came after Arsenal lost Bukayo Saka to a torn hamstring, but Jesus' subsequent injury means the Gunners will surely dip their toes into the January transfer market in a bid to provide mitigation.

Arsenal are going to be without Jesus for the rest of 2024/25 and for a chunk of next season. The striker will be 28 by the time he returns to action, but whether we see a Jesus close to apex again in north London is another matter. It's a devastating blow for a venerated figure.
