The only thing missing from Arsenal's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United was a big old thunderstorm.

A soaked-through Emirates would've been fitting of the atmosphere in N5 on Sunday evening as Gooners eventually came to the tragic realisation that this would, yet again, not be Arsenal's day.

An eventless first half was succeeded by vintage chaos, with the hosts having a reckless Diogo Dalot to thank for getting them back into the contest. Gabriel restored parity after Bruno Fernandes' excellent opener, but Mikel Arteta's side were then intent on exiting the competition by failing to take one of the gazillion chances that fell their way against the undermanned visitors.

An eventual defeat in the shootout capped a bleak week for Arteta's side and the first trough the Spaniard's project for quite some time.

Where Arsenal go from here is up for debate, but whatever direction the Gunners head, it looks like they'll embark on that journey without Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian was stretchered off at the end of the first half with a knee injury.

Here's the latest on Jesus' setback.

“Big worry, that’s my feeling,” responded Arteta, when asked about Jesus' injury.

“He had to come off on a stretcher, with a lot of pain, touching his knee. It’s not looking good. I think it is the other one [and not the knee he injured at the 2022 World Cup]."

Jesus underwent surgery on his right knee and was out for three months as a result of the aforementioned World Cip injury.

“But the worrying factor is more the feeling that he had, when he had to come off, and the pain that he was in," Arteta added.

How long could Gabriel Jesus be out for?

Jesus broke down after attempting to challenge Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the Arsenal box. Much was made of the United playmaker's theatrics after Andy Madley opted against awarding a foul despite Jesus catching Fernandes' heel. While Fernandes threw his boot around, Jesus was in agony on the turf.

The Arsenal forward will undergo further scans on Monday, but experts fear the worst. Physio Scout on X, who provided an accurate assessment of Bukayo Saka's hamstring tear, believes that the best-case scenario - a bone bruise or isolated meniscus/MCL injury - is unlikely in regards to Jesus. They believe the Brazilian has suffered a 'bad' ACL injury - likely a tear.

If that analysis is accurate, Jesus' season is over. In fact, he'll likely miss much of 2024 with ACL tears typically taking at least nine months to recover from. There's no confirmation yet, but we should be preparing for the worst. That's how the 2024/25 season has gone for the Gunners.
