Arsenal could now be less than 24 hours away from discovering whether they can pull off a blockbuster move for Vinicius Junior.

After a slow start to the window, dramatic news livened up Gunners transfer discourse just over a week ago when it emerged that the North London club are exploring an audacious deal for the Real Madrid star. With contract talks between Los Blancos and the Brazilian's camp stalling over the last six months, Andrea Berta has sensed an opportunistic move for a global superstar could be on the cards.

Now, not only is this sensational deal closer than ever, but a verdict on whether it is likely to materialise could come within the next day or so.

The saga is at a critical stage, and Arsenal might just come out on top.

Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid meeting scheduled for Wednesday

Vinicius' prospective move to Arsenal was always going to hinge on whether a new contract could be agreed with Real Madrid.

The Gunners were never fearful of competition from elsewhere, with other top clubs in Europe not in the position to pursue the player, while Berta has reportedly been laying the groundwork on a potential deal for several months.

If he opts to leave the Bernabeu, it'll almost certainly be for Arsenal. However, it's always been about whether the 26-year-old wants to make this brave decision and depart the biggest club on the planet.

Arsenal transfer news guru HandOfArsenal essentially confirmed this last week when he revealed the news that the Gunners had agreed personal terms with Vinicius in principle.

It's now up to the player and Real Madrid to sit down and come to a conclusion, and according to ESPN journalist Rodra, these crunch talks are set to take place on Wednesday.

The reporter suggests that the two parties will meet to discuss the outcome of this saga. The Spanish giants have no intention of increasing their latest contract renewal offer, with Vinicius demanding €30 million and the La Liga club only willing to offer up to €22 million.

Rodra reports that key decision-makers at the Bernabeu are in favour of making the sale, so that they avoid breaking their wage policy for Vinicius and garner a significant fee that they can use to reinvest in Jose Mourinho's squad.

Optimism is said to be growing at Arsenal. There is a feeling around London Colney that no agreement between Vinicius' agency, Roc Nation, and Real Madrid will be reached, and that the player's entourage actually wants him to swap the Spanish capital for North London, as it'll benefit them financially.

A transfer fee of around €150 million (£128 million) is estimated, and given some of astronomical fees that have been paid elsewhere this summer, Arsenal will feel this is good value, even if the Brazil international has just 12 months left on his contract.

This update indicates that an answer could be given to Arsenal within 24 hours. It should be relatively apparent early in the discussion whether either side is willing to back down and accept each other's demands.

In a day or so, Vinicius Junior could be Emirates-bound.
