Arsenal could sign striker transfer target on loan in January
- Brighton's Evan Ferguson could be available on loan in January
- The Irish striker has struggled for game time at start of 2024/25
- Arsenal have previously expressed an interest in Ferguson
Arsenal may well be presented with the opportunity to sign transfer target Evan Ferguson on loan in the January window.
The young Brighton forward burst onto the scene on the south coast under Roberto De Zerbi but has since endured a frustrating 18 months with the Seagulls. Ferguson scored six goals down the stretch of the 2022/23 season and carried that bright form into 2023/24, netting his first Premier League hat-trick against Newcastle, but the 20-year-old has just one league goal to his name since December 2023.
He missed the end of last season due to an ankle injury and has so far found minutes hard to come by under new manager Fabian Hurzeler. Ferguson's been a victim of Danny Welback's renaissance at the Amex, but has fallen behind others in the pecking order.
His lack of minutes could offer the Gunners a chance to snag the talented forward on loan this winter.

According to the Telegraph, Brighton would be willing to part ways for Ferguson on a temporary basis in the January transfer window. The Seagulls recognise his need for minutes and the 20-year-old will undoubtedly have suitors.
There has been talk of interest from Arsenal even when the Irish international was struggling for form last season. After he broke out in 2023, it looked like Brighton would be able to demand in excess of £100m for the all-round impressive forward, but Ferguson's reportedly valued at the £60m mark.
However, the Seagulls are not yet ready to part ways with the strike permanently given his potential.
Arsenal's rut between the October and November breaks returned calls for the signing of a striker in 2025. Kai Havertz has performed well as Mikel Arteta's number nine in 2024, but links to Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres suggest the club will test the #9 waters next year.
A loan deal for Ferguson could tempt the Gunners midway through the season, but Arsenal would surely only pursue a move if they thought they could sign the 20-year-old permanently after it. They're not going to have much interest in merely handing the striker minutes purely for Brighton's long-term benefit.
Still, the latest reports suggest Ferguson may be a name to keep an eye on over the festive period and heading into the January window.
