William Saliba recently penned a new deal with Arsenal that would keep him at the club till at least 2030, despite lingering interest from giants Real Madrid.

Real Madrid considered Saliba the "Jude Bellingham of defenders", and even though the club usually get what it wants, with Saliba, it was a bit more complicated than that.

Saliba did not want to leave Arsenal without winning anything with the club. It is the club where he has found his superstardom, and it makes complete sense for him to want to stay at the club until he wins a few major trophies.

It is a good time to be an Arsenal fan anyway, with great wins left and right, along with genuine belief that they could win it all this year.

Well, a different Arsenal player also did a similar thing to Real Madrid, but that was just before he joined Arsenal.

Martin Zubimendi also rejected Real Madrid to join Arsenal

Arsenal's new signing Martin Zubimendi, who has already started impressing everyone at the club this season, recently talked about interest from Real Madrid, and basically confirmed that he had interest from the club.

He said: "I don't know, I don't know. We're talking about very big clubs. To say that Madrid was missing a piece like me is a lot to say because all the players they have are spectacular. And at Arsenal, it's more of the same.

"I also wanted a very detail-oriented manager, and in Mikel, as soon as I spoke to him, I found him.

"At Arsenal there was a very young team, with a lot of passion, very close-knit, eager to win, and even though they haven’t been able to do so, that makes them even more eager."

Zubimendi was respectful as ever with the way he talked about Real Madrid, and that shows a lot of character. Not many people do it the way he did, and his reasoning for joining Arsenal also makes perfect sense.

At Real Madrid, he would have also been competing with so many players like Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, which could have resulted in less minutes for the Spaniard.

At Arsenal, he gets the freedom to play as much as possible, and gets the keys to ball progression from the midfield, which is really his bread and butter every single week.

Zubimendi will continue to improve, and working under Mikel Arteta will help him in more ways than just one.
