Arsenal will be looking to their captain, Martin Ødegaard, at this stage in the season. The Norwegian has a positive outlook on their Champions League tie tonight, which Gunners fans will love.

Ødegaard said, "[Today] against Atlético [Madrid] is another great opportunity for us to do something special. We know what’s there and we just have to enjoy it and be ready for it … take all the lessons you know from the past and bring it into this end of season."

It is a difficult time for Arsenal right now, with recent defeats to AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City. These may have cost the Gunners the Premier League title, which looked to be in the bag.

However, Mikel Arteta's side has a break from thinking about the league tonight as they take on Atlético. The Gunners have already beaten Atlético 4-0 in the group stage this season. However, Ødegaard missed that game due to injury.

Martin Ødegaard's season has been disrupted through injuries

Remarkably, Arsenal have been top of the Premier League for so much of this season, considering Ødegaard has missed so much soccer. He has played just 22 times in the division, scoring once and providing six assists. In the Champions League, Ødegaard has played just five times, without getting on the scoresheet. Although he did set up Bukayo Saka's goal in a 2-1 win over Olympiacos in the group stage.

There were recent reports that Ødegaard could be leaving Arsenal this summer. He was being linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and Atlético. However, Ødegaard dismissed talk of this.

Arsenal has been the club that Ødegaard has settled at after a tumultuous start to his career. He was plucked from Strømsgodset by Real Madrid when he was just 16. He was then loaned out to Heerenveen, Vitesse, and Real Sociedad. There were concerns that the Norwegian would become a journeyman after so much hype was built around him as a young player.

A loan move to Arsenal in 2021 led to a permanent switch to the Gunners. Whilst he has only lifted the Community Shield with the club, he has been a key player and an influential captain. More silverware is needed if Ødegaard is to go down as one of Arsenal's greatest leaders. They may miss out on winning the Premier League this season to Manchester City. However, the Gunners still have a good chance in the Champions League.
