Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal have begun the process of attempting to sign Bruno Guimaraes. Their talks of £55m as a transfer fee were immediately shut down, with Newcastle unwilling to sell for that fee.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle are open to selling at a higher fee, but since Arsenal essentially lowballed the Magpies with their opening talks, there is plenty of room for the Gunners to increase their price. He's certainly worth more than £55m, to say the least.
Any Arsenal fan who had a sour taste in their mouth, after he avoided a red card for elbowing Jorginho in the face a few seasons ago, may change their mind completely. If he's wearing Arsenal red next season, then all will be forgiven.

Bruno Guimaraes is certainly Arsenal-level
Bruno Guimaraes is a generational player, and one that has added to the Newcastle project in recent seasons. The Magpies qualifying for Europe, along with winning the League Cup, has been a collective effort with the likes of Bruno leading the charge.
Bruno combines ruthless aggression with technical prowess in a dynamic role that allows him to play both in the 6 and in the 8. He is great in tight spaces, using his frame to move out of them in a manner akin to Patrick Vieira or even Gilberto Silva.
With Declan Rice retrieving possesion and holding the line and Martin Zubimendi dictating the play, Bruno Guimaraes could easily slot into the Arsenal midfield and make them a dynamic unit. While it may be too early to say, the midfield three has what it takes to become one of the best in the world.
The summer transfer window is shaping up to be an excellent one for Arsenal. Not only are the Gunners interested in Bruno Guimaraes, but they are also looking to sign Morgan Rogers.
Right now, Bruno Guimaraes is at the World Cup. He is playing alongside Gabriel Maglhaes and Gabriel Martinelli for Brazil, who many would consider to be up there with the favorites at this year's tournament.
Arsenal has a rich history of hosting Brazilian players. In fact, many of their club legends come from the world's football nation.
A great World Cup would undeniably increase his stock price, so it could be a smart play from Arsenal to get the talks ongoing now. Nobody talks about those who invested in bitcoin after the boom, after all.
