Arsenal lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final via a penalty shootout. Heartbreakingly, Gabriel was head in hands after missing the decisive penalty. Nevertheless, Arsenal fans are refusing to turn on him.

Gabriel played phenomenally in the Champions League final. He received an 8/10 rating, which is the highest in our Arsenal player ratings. Other than the one moment which everybody will be talking about, Gabriel was Arsenal's best player.

With an impressive 15 defensive contributions, the most of any player in the pitch, Gabriel made himself proud.

Arsenal fans send a wave of support Gabriel's way

It says a lot about Arsenal's club culture that after losing their biggest game of the century, the top post is a positive one.

Arsenal fans quickly took to Reddit, with the top post being one in support of Gabriel. It reads "We love you Gabi ❤️" with a simple image of him and his teammate William Saliba holding the Premier League trophy.

One reply reads "We wouldn't even be in the final without Gabi. We will be back next year," while another reads "Penalties are a coin toss. I'll never blame a player for missing one."

The messaging takes many forms, but the message itself is universal. Arsenal fans love Gabriel, and they don't blame him for a second.

Emotions are high, but hindsight is a pivotal thing in this game. Indeed, Arsenal wouldn't be here without Gabriel, and right now, he deserves the same love that Arsenal fans gave to Bukayo Saka after he missed the penalty for England in the EURO final.

Marquinhos' gesture to Gabriel says it all

Gabriel's Brazilian teammate Marquinhos, who was on the winning team, was the first player to come over and console Gabriel. It was a classy moment that he could have spent with his winning teammates, but he walked over to Gabriel while the cameras were on PSG players and hugged him.

It was a simple sign of respect, and one that won't go unnoticed by the footballing world.

Marquinhos, you were a legend already, but you've taught a new generation of football fans what it means to be respectful in this game.

But the support for Gabriel shouldn't end with Marquinhos' gesture. And it won't.

Tomorrow is Arsenal's title parade, and that parade hasn't been dampened in the slightest. Fans will remain in full voice, and there will certainly be banners and chants that pinpoint the respect that Gabriel deserves.
