Well, well, well.

Newcastle United just turned their attention to former Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko to replace former Arsenal target Alexander Isak. No, that's not a typo.

Newcastle United has had a horrid few hours. After holding onto the hope for so long that they would keep the star player Alexander Isak, it turns out the Sweden international wants to leave.

Now, understandably, Newcastle is entering panic stations. The Magpies can thank Alexander Isak for all of their recent successes, including their Champions League tenure and winning the EFL Cup against Liverpool.

Now, ironically, Alexander Isak might be signing FOR Liverpool, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Newcastle United linked to Benjamin Sesko to replace Alexander Isak

Of course, Alexander Isak signing for Liverpool has Arsenal ripple effects. Not only was he linked to Arsenal in the recent past, but it also sets Arsenal's strongest league rivals up with even more chance to repeat the Premier League win, at the Gunners' expense.

However, there is a slightly bittersweet but unquestionably hilarious undertone which Arsenal fans will view as completely ironic.

In a surprising twist of events, Newcastle United might end up signing Benjamin Sesko, who was previously linked to Arsenal.

Yes, seriously.

After withholding Alexander Isak from Arsenal's grasp for so long, the Magpies are now turning their attention to signing the player who Arsenal might have signed instead of Isak.

Arsenal signed the better of Viktor Gyokeres and Sesko

Of course, Arsenal no longer has eyes on Sesko. They don't need to sign him, after recently making a breakthrough with Viktor Gyokeres. The way things are going, Gyokeres looks like a confirmed Arsenal already; the Gunners are just awaiting official confirmation before jumping to conclusions.

Gyokeres is the better option than Sesko, as great as Sesko is. It can certainly be argued that Gyokeres is the final product, whereas Sesko is still a 'project player.'

Therefore, Arsenal can have little regrets about signing Gyokeres. Not in a 'beggars can't be choosers' type of way, but because out of the two options, Gyokeres and Sesko, Arsenal got the better option.

Nevertheless, fans cannot help but feel like Isak might have been the best option, if three strikers were presented to Arsenal. At the time, though, Newcastle were pretty insistent that Isak wasn't leaving.

But, we won't add fuel to the fire.

It is just ironically hilarious that Newcastle is scrambling for Arsenal's backup option after preventing them from signing Newcastle's own first option.
