Arsenal have now verbally agreed a deal to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, according to Fabrizio Romano and various sources.

The transfer guru delivered his famous 'here we go' phrase to reveal the Gunners have reached an agreement that will see the Swedish forward play his football at the Emirates Stadium next season.

Gyokeres is set to join Arsenal for a €63.5million fee with €10m in add-ons, as per David Ornstein, bringing an end to the club's long-awaited move for a deadly goalscorer and also a transfer saga that has both entertained and panicked Gunners fans over the past weeks.

Arsenal agree deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal had been searching for a striker for a long time and after failing to add such a player to their ranks in previous transfer windows, this was the summer that it had to be done.

The Gunners went into the market with two names in mind, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, and for a while, it seemed the former was their preferred option. Despite reports they were negotiating for both simultaneously, it seemed talks were more advanced for Sesko, prompting many to believe he would be their new striker for the new season.

However, due to various circumstances, that move fell through, meaning Arsenal turned their attention fully to Gyokeres, entering advanced talks with Sporting earlier this month.

There were concerns around a deal though, with the Portuguese champions standing firm on their demands while the Gunners weren't keen to meet the full asking price. Despite the fears of a collapse though, Arsenal made a breakthrough just over a week ago when they agreed a deal in principle with Sporting.

There was still back-and-forths between the representatives of both sides due to haggling over the terms of the add-ons, but after a long wait, that has finally been agreed.

Mikel Arteta's side have now practically sealed the deal with Gyokeres expected to be given permission to undergo a medical within the next 24 hours before signing a five-year contract. The move isn't completely official just yet, but with just the final formalities to go, fans can now get really excited that they are finally set to sign a much-needed prolific striker.

The final steps should be quick as Arsenal will likely want the move officially announced in time for Gyokeres to join up with his soon-to-be new teammates for their pre-season tour of Asia. The squad have already flown out to Singapore and are set to take on AC Milan tomorrow, but the Swede could still join up for the next games.

The last few pieces of the puzzle are finally coming together for Arteta.
