Arsenal are in the process of completing a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, according to multiple reports.
The Athletic's David Ornstein revealed the Gunners are taking the final steps in club-to-club negotiations after making formal advances on the deal terms over the weekend.
After little progress was made since Mikel Arteta's side entered advanced talks last week, there had been fears that a deal was off due to Sporting's reluctance to lower their demands, but Fabrizio Romano has said that was never the case. Arsenal now willing to get closer to the €70million plus €10m the Portuguese champions want.

It is appears with the two clubs on the verge of agreeing a fee, Viktor Gyokeres is close to being considered an Arsenal player. He has made it clear effectively since the transfer window opened that he only wants a move to north London despite interest from other clubs such as Manchester United.
His desire to leave Sporting for the Gunners sparked a clash between himself and the club in recent days with the side preparing to take disciplinary action for the Swede not showing up to training when required back. Arsenal remained relaxed throughout the situation however, and that approach now seems to have paid off.
Both the club and the striker are now close to getting the move they have wanted for much of the summer. Gyokeres will likely be the Gunners' fifth signing of the summer with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard all having completed moves while a deal has been agreed for Noni Madueke to join from Chelsea.
Fans will be very pleased to see Arsenal have agreed to meet Sporting's demands. Their desire to sign Madueke and willingness to match Chelsea's asking price prompted supporters to state the same approach should have been taken for the club's priority position this summer.
It is important to note that an agreement has not been reached just yet, but with the Gunners willing to meet the selling club's valuation, it is near. Arsenal are now so close to bringing in that much-needed striker to the club and fans will surely be very excited.
