Viktor Gyokeres only wants to sign for Arsenal, he's made this crystal clear to Sporting CP. He's even refusing to turn up to training.
Arsenal fans know too well about the feeling of players throwing their toys out of the pram. It's incredibly frustrating when players play for moves away... Unless it happens to work in Arsenal's favour, of course.
Only a few years ago, Arsenal wouldn't have been worthy of such behaviour. Before Mikel Arteta arrived, they were seen as a club to laugh at, not push to join. Now, the North London side is an attractive destination, and it's mostly thanks to Mikel Arteta's resilience.
Fabrizio Romano assures Arsenal fans
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Viktor Gyokeres is cemented in his position. His stance is crystal clear, as he only wants Arsenal. So much so, the Sporting striker is refusing to show up for Sporting training.
In his own words, Romano said: "Viktor Gyökeres deal remains ongoing with the two clubs maintaining their position on the transfer fee. No chance for Gyökeres to show up for training, he has already informed Sporting about that. Only Arsenal."
It's those two words which will send a collective shiver of relief through the Arsenal fanbase. "Only Arsenal" - Feels good to read, doesn't it, Gunners? Read it again, you know you want to.
Arsenal fans can finally get excited for Viktor Gyokeres
Only a few hours ago, the mood surrounding Viktor Gyokeres was starting to drop. This is simply part and parcel of the high-octane summer transfer window, when things are going slow, fans jump to conclusions that nothing is happening (we're certainly guilty of that, we all are).
However, Fabrizio Romano's words are as assuring as ever, and they come from one of the most reliable journalists in the building.
Reading between the lines, we can safely assume that Viktor Gyokeres is acting up so he can get his move to Arsenal. Those of the "glass half full" philosophy will say this is a worrying sign for Arsenal but hey, right now, it works in our favour if he ends up Emirates-bound.
Of course, negotiations still need to go on, but now seems like the perfect time to start being hysterical.
