Arsenal begin their preparations for the 2025/26 season on Wednesday as they take on Serie A side AC Milan.

The Gunners finished last season in second place for the third consecutive campaign and will be looking to go one better this time around. If they are to do so, it will be key for them to prepare in the right way, starting with a victory in their first pre-season test.

Mikel Arteta's side are coming up against a Milan team that disappointed in last year's Serie A. The 19-time league champions finished in eighth place, failing to qualify for European competition for the first time since 2016. Now under the leadership of Massimiliano Allegri, the Rossoneri will be hoping to improve on that and will want to start with a good result against Arsenal.

Here's our preview of Arsenal's pre-season opener against AC Milan.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal have taken a 30-man squad with them to Singapore with a mix of first team regulars, new signings and academy stars included.

Fresh additions Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga have all travelled with their new teammates and could feature against AC Milan. Fellow newcomer Noni Madueke is not part of the squad however so will not appear.

Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba are among the first team stars who flew out to Singapore and they are likely to play some part on Wednesday. Gabriel Magalhaes spent the end of last season out injured, but he has travelled and could make his first Gunners appearance since April against Milan.

Academy prospects Max Dowman, Ismeal Kabia, Andre Harriman-Annous, Louie Copley, Josh Nichols and Marli Salmon accompanied the senior squad and some of them could be given a chance. Goalkeepers Tommy Setford and Alexei Rojas-Fedorushchenko have also travelled, but it's unlikely they will appear against Milan.

AC Milan team news

Following the appointment of Allegri as manager, Milan have added to their ranks this summer. Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric have joined to strengthen midfield while shotstopper Pietro Terracciano has also joined the club. The two Italians are likely to feature against Arsenal, but Modric won't as he didn't travel with the squad.

Having seen Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders depart the club during the transfer window, Allegri is keen to continue searching the market for new additions so it is unlikely he will field what will be his preferred side on Wednesday.

Arsenal vs AC Milan score prediction

Both sides will be looking to start their pre-seasons strongly as they hope to have better campaigns than last year.

Mikel Arteta is likely to field a stronger side than his opposite and that should make them the favourites to take the victory. However, Milan boast plenty of talent that will provide Arsenal with a tough test.

The Gunners should be winning this tie, but both they and their opponents have been out of action since May so they could be a little rusty. As the warming up only just begins, this one has the potential to be a bit closer than expected. It's likely to be a tight affair with the sides separated by just one goal.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 AC Milan
