Arsenal have an interesting summer ahead, and they are hoping it will follow a Premier League title-winning campaign. The Gunners are potentially just a handful of games away from ending their more than two-decade-long title drought, but it is not a sprint to the finish with Manchester City, with the two sides currently on course to finish level on points.
Whether the Gunners win the title or not this summer, they are going to want to strengthen and replace possible departures. According to the recent reports, AFC Bournemouth star Junior Kroupi is one of the early targets on the shortlist.
Arsenal need to sign a striker (yes, again)
While it's not clear where Arsenal should strengthen, given their obviously very strong squad, the one area most agree on is the striker's department. The Gunners will rely upon Viktor Gyokeres going forward, and Mikel Arteta clearly likes Kai Havertz for positional and work ethic reasons, but there are big questions over the future of Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian has struggled with fitness and has not provided regular goalscoring in recent times, and as he prepares for the last year of his deal, it is likely Jesus will be sold this summer. Equally, it's likely he will want to be a starter, which is not going to happen at the Emirates Stadium.
That should provide Arsenal with the opportunity to add better goalscoring competition up top, with a proven goalscorer needed to provide proper competition for Gyokeres.
Junior Kroupi fits the Arsenal mould
talkSPORT have now reported that Bournemouth striker Kroupi is one of the players in consideration, with the 19-year-old having impressed with the Cherries after arriving from FC Lorient.
Kroupi has 11 goals in 31 games across all competitions despite being a very young player arriving in a new league. Arsenal will like that return, and Kroupi fits the profile of being a younger player, which is the market the Gunners need to do better in exploiting going forward.
Arsenal have done very well bringing through young players, but they have had to spend big to recruit talent, now needing to sign younger and pay a little less if their recruitment is going to be sustainable.
Kroupi would not be cheap, but he may be a gettable target even if Bournemouth qualify for Europe, given that manager Andoni Iraola is going to leave this summer. Manchester City are also said to be interested, which could drive up the price, but Bournemouth signed Kroupi for £10million last year, so it's likely the price would be reasonable, or at least much more reasonable than the £100million plus Atletico Madrid are likely to demand for star man Julian Alvarez this summer.
