Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has a good feeling that Gyokeres is going to be the goal-scoring threat he was at Sporting.
When the Gunners signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, fans finally could breathe a sigh of relief with the star striker seen as the missing piece to Mikel Arteta's Premier League puzzle.
But coming from a league that is considered less than, when compared to the Premier League, some have doubts over whether or not Viktor's goal-scoring feats can translate to English football.
Is that valid? We think so, but the body of work behind Gyokeres suggests that we should give him the benefit of the doubt. Now, will he hit the ground running, Erling Haaland style? Likely not, but he will get on the end of plenty of goals this season.
Still, as we approach the start of the Premier League season, the first test for the Swede is Manchester United away, and what better way to endear yourself to the Gunners faithful than playing a key role in an opening-day win?
Yeah, that would be just the tonic to get this season off and running on a positive note.
Gunners legend bullish on Gyokeres
We mentioned that some are skeptical of Viktor translating his goal-scoring form from Portugal to the Premier League, but others are far more confident in No.14's ability to be the goal-scoring monster he was for Sporting.
Former Gunners defender Lee Dixon, in speaking with 10bet via GOAL.com, wants to see Viktor's intangibles and how he deals with the ebbs and flows of life in the to-flight, but did state he has a "good feeling" about No. 14.
We can't expect the world, at least initially, with players needing time to adjust to life in the Premier League, but the Gunners aren't in a position for Viktor to get off to a slow start, considering how tough their opening set of fixtures is.
But nonetheless, the goals will come for Gyokeres, it is just a matter of how he copes when things aren't going so well, which we hope, won't be too often.
