Arsenal have missed too many chances over the last month, that it might now start becoming a mental battle in front of goal.

Arsenal's attacking woes were again laid bare in the 2-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester United with Mikel Arteta's side again dominating a game, and again, wasting a host of chances.

Kai Havertz missed a host of goal-scoring chances in what might be his worst day in front of goal ever, Gabriel Martinelli hit the post, Declan Rice missed chances, and Martin Odegaard missed a second-half penalty.

Arsenal's goal-scoring woes aren't just a small problem now, they're debilitating and are at risk of becoming the key reason for yet another trophyless season in north London.

Against United, Arsenal registered 26 shots to 7, which included 30 minutes of extra time and the Gunners, against 10-man after the 61st minute, still couldn't find a way through.

It resembles the yips in which a team misses so many chances that the next time one presents itself, the player knows how long it has been since scoring, and the pressure gets too much, leading to yet another miss. This can spread like wildfire through the team.

So, does Arsenal have a mental problem in front of goal after so many missed opportunities?

"Obviously relying on not performing like this and waiting for one shot to go on target and score a goal," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "I don't want to bet on that. I bet on that team to try. Are we going to win big trophies? I don't know. But playing like this there are very few teams in the world that can play at that level."

Given the sheer number of chances, if the Gunners keep creating them, then surely one of them has to be taken, right? And then the mental handbrake will be lifted.

Over the last two games, the stats are mindboggling.

Arsenal has had a total of 49 shots on goal, with just 10 on target, and only one goal to show for it, and that came from a defender too.

That isn't ideal and while Arteta might not necessarily see a mental hurdle that needs to be jumped over in front of goal, but there can be no denying there's a problem here.

It is one that is seriously affecting the Gunners' season success. If they can't break through this mental barrier, it's going to be a long few months for the north London faithful.
