Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta isn't sure the club needs to invest in attacking players in January.
Either Mikel Arteta believes in Arsenal's current crop of attacking players, or he's naive about the club's current situation.
In the FA Cup loss to Manchester United, the Gunners had a whopping 26 shots in 90 minutes plus extra time and only had one goal to show for it in what is now a debilitating theme for Arsenal.
If that wasn't enough, the knee injury to Gabriel Jesus has further crippled Arsenal's attacking options, which were already struggling to convert a ridiculous number of chances.
So, we are nearly halfway through January, and there seems to be little want to invest in the squad, and let's be truthful here, any prospective move would require serious investment because as we know, signings in January are far more expensive than they are in the summer.
But still, with the gravity of Arsenal's situation, does Arteta feel the need to invest in a forward in the coming weeks?
"No, but I mean, we miss from various ways, from different plays," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "And I understand guys that, but I cannot love our players more. And I focus very much on the ones that we have to perform at the highest level. That's it. The rest is not in our hands, in my hands."
You don't have to search social media for long to see the thousands of fans crying out for the club to do something in January, but as we know, under Arteta, the club doesn't move hastily in the market, there is a concerted approach.
The club wants quality and a player who can improve the squad. Given that it would be an injury replacement, Arteta doesn't want a squad-clogging player; he wants one who will raise the floor.
With a title challenge that is, for some, hanging by a threat, being dumped out of the FA Cup, and needing to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit in the Carabao Cup, the Gunners need all the help they can get right now.
After Kai Havertz's horror show against United, on another day, if the Gunners had a proper striker, that's a three-goal game, but alas, 26 shots and only one goal to show for it, isn't what is needed right now.
Reinforcements are, and right now, it doesn't seem like Arsenal are too keen to get them in.
