Arsenal are currently in advanced talks to sign Matteo Tognozzi, who is formerly the head of scouting at Juventus. He would work under Andrea Berta.

Ever since Edu Gaspar left Arsenal last season, there has been a huge Edu shaped hole at the top of the Arsenal pecking order. The club legend revolutionised the ways that Arsenal approached their internal strategies. Naturally, he was a big loss when he joined a new project.

Still, Arsenal cannot afford to wait around and mourn Edu. Indeed, they have business to do, and they'll do it under new director Andrea Berta. Berta has already made a big impact at Arsenal, but his next big hire won't be a face Arsenal fans see everyday.

According to a recent update from Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is in advanced talks to hire the former head of scouting at Juventus, Matteo Tognozzi. It remains to be seen what role he'll have at Arsenal, but given his expertise in scouting, talent recognition and development, he'll play a big role in Arsenal's future.

Like anything Arsenal-related, this will be met with a mixed response. While those optimistic about the future under Berta will look at this as a positive, stepping-stone sign towards progression, others will look at it and think 'great, but where are the players?'

And both lines of argument are correct. They aren't mutually exclusive. Tognozzi would be brought in, with the aim of assisting transfers.

To tell you a little bit more about Tognozzi and what he offers, it's best if we look at his achievements to date. Tognozzi has been responsible for the talent recognition of Dean Huijsen, Radu Dragusin and Matias Soule in the past.

Arsenal has a pretty good scouting network. However, let's not act like it can't be improved. This is a great addition, and hopefully it's pushed through sooner rather than later.
