Arsenal has been quite busy today, stealing one of Tottenham's major transfer targets from under their nose. A quiet move the Gunners already made by signing Leandro Trossard to a new contract now looks like even better business.
Keeping hold of Leandro Trossard might have been a controversial move among the Arsenal fanbase. The reason for the controversy is that he was given a pay rise without a contract extension. It, admittedly, is rather unorthodox, but when has Arteta ever followed the rule book?
Anyway, fans who didn't quite understand it at the time, might understand it more now. Don't get it twisted, either, there is absolutely room for Eberechi Eze and Leandro Trossard in the same squad.
Arsenal's quiet move before Eberechi Eze steal looks cleverly planned
Leandro Trossard is the Kai Havertz replacement. The Belgian international has shown a keen ability to play through the center of attack when required in the past, and now that Kai Havertz is injured, Trossard may be required in this position more often at the start of this season.
Trossard will move from the left to the center, and he will act as a backup option for the summer signing Viktor Gyokeres. Then, off the left flank, Eberechi Eze will be Arsenal's strongest left-winger.
So, Arsenal went from having almost no depth in the attack to having plenty of depth in the attack. There are now two players in each of the front three positions that could realistically start a Premier League game.
Off the left, it will be Eze/Martinelli, through the center it will be Gyokeres/Trossard, and off the right it will be Saka/Madueke.
It's wild how that shift in depth, which looks far more impressive than yesterday, stemmed from an injury. Sometimes, wins can disguise themselves as losses at first. But hey, as far as Arsenal is concerned, they all count.
What would be your preferred Arsenal lineup now that Eze's on the brink of signing?
