Arsenal's price tag for Fábio Vieira could complicate Hamburg return

Arsenal have set the price tag for Fábio Vieira at around €18 million, according to a report from Sky Sports via Bulinews.

Vieira is coming back from a pretty impressive loan spell at Hamburg, and the German club reportedly wants to bring the player back on a permanent deal.

Vieira, according to the report, also thinks that his development was going well in Germany, and if he wants to continue that progress, he should go back because he was getting regular game time and playing well, too.

It's the most obvious thing in the world to say that Arsenal have no space in their squad for Fábio Vieira. As talented as he was when he first joined Arsenal, he just hasn't shown enough. The players that Arsenal have brought in since then are a lot better than what Vieira can provide at this stage of his career.

So it is safe to say that a move is going to happen. Whether it is to Hamburg or to any other club, whether it will be a loan or a permanent move remains to be seen.

Arsenal would probably need to lower the price for Fabio Vieira

Hamburger SV absolutely do not want to pay the €18 million price tag that Arsenal have set, according to the report. They are still very much interested in completing the transfer, but at the same time Arsenal are also keen on getting the money that they want for the Portuguese midfielder.

As it stands, Vieira might not even play many pre-season minutes because his future just is not at Arsenal. It might not even be worth Mikel Arteta playing him in Arsenal's pre-season friendlies. So a sale must happen now for the club to be able to take him off their books once and for all.

Obviously, it's a tough situation for Vieira to be in. He clearly improved during his time at Hamburg, scoring seven goals and assisting four more in the Bundesliga last season. He'd want to go back, and both clubs want the same thing to happen.

But Arsenal, at the end of the day, would want to get as much as possible because they did spend nearly 30 million pounds bringing him in from Porto in 2022. Now, they just want to get some money back for him in the last year of his contract.

If everyone wants this deal to happen, it will probably end up happening at a discounted price. That way, at least Arsenal get something out of the deal rather than losing him for free in a year's time.

It remains to be seen what actually happens and where Vieira ends up playing. But for his sake, everyone would hope it is at Hamburg.
