Arsenal's Bruno Guimaraes deal reportedly down to the final few details

Arsenal and Newcastle United have reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes to the Premier League champions, with just a few details left to be ironed out.

This is according to a report from L'Equipe, who claim that Arsenal have agreed to pay 90 million euros (77 million pounds) to Newcastle for the Brazilian midfielder.

There are still some details left to be finalised, of course, like agent fees, bonuses, etc., but generally speaking, the report claims that the transfer is now done.

Guimaraes to Arsenal was a rumor that, at the start of its cycle, seemed unlikely to happen. Newcastle were not particularly interested in selling their only star left in the squad, with players like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon all leaving before him.

However, Arsenal kept pushing, and with Eddie Howe leaving the club with immediate effect, it was made clear that Arsenal were going to get to the finish line with Guimaraes sooner rather than later.

Howe probably would not have left if he knew there was a possibility of the club keeping Guimaraes beyond the transfer window. However, his departure was the icing on the cake that Arsenal needed.

Obviously, the deal is not completely done, as of yet, but the most important thing in any case - and even more so in a transfer as big as this - is the agreement in principle, which L'Equipe claim there is.

It is also worth talking about Guimaraes' fit, as well. He looked comfortable playing as a deep-lying six for Brazil and Newcastle last season, and now, with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard playing advanced positions, while Martin Zubimendi showing signs of struggle, this is the perfect signing that Arsenal could have made.

Their midfield was already good, but with this signing, Rice and Odegaard will have less defensive duties to worry about. They also would not have to worry about the problems that Zubimendi started facing physically towards the second half of the campaign, because Guimaraes' brute physicality is one of his best traits.

Guimaraes adds a level of physicality and dominance that was missing from this Arsenal midfield for a very long time. In fact, Myles Lewis-Skelly was picked over Zubimendi on a number of occasions because of that, and now, Guimaraes will also be working to improve Arsenal's chances of winning every single trophy even further.
