Arsenal have been linked with a move for Chrsitos Tzolis from Club Brugge, confirmed by the likes of David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano on Friday.
The last few days for Arsenal fans have been generally quiet. Everyone has been waiting for the World Cup to start, and things have just not been happening. There have been a few links here and there, but other clubs have been much more involved in the transfer market than the Premier League champions.
And that is exactly why - because they are Premier League champions. They do not need that many signings in the first place. Obviously, they would keep an eye out for market opportunities in the summer to see if there is any position where they can potentially upgrade. However, apart from that, there are only a couple of positions in the squad where Arsenal would definitely want to bring players in for.
One of those positions is the left-wing spot in the club, which Tzolis currently occupies at Brugge.
Arsenal's reported move could mean the writing's on the wall for 2 players
His statistics, to be absolutely blunt, are ridiculous. 22 goals and 29 assists last season, he has every making for a future star. It would be tough to see it translate into the Premier League the exact same way, but if Tzolis has that much talent, eventually, he would be playing great football. And that could drive away both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, and there is a big reason to believe so.
Rumors have been about addressing the left-wing spot with a world class player, or at least a star. Someone who is good now. Someone who can be great from the get-go, and has experience. Tzolis may not end up being that player immediately, which is why Arsenal will not be stopping their search for an alternative.
For that to happen, Arsenal may have to sell both of their current left-wingers in Martinelli and Trossard, and then it would make more sense. Right now, there haven't been many rumors about either player's departure.
Otherwise, there would be three Arsenal players in that same position, assuming one of them ends up leaving either way. However, if Arsenal want both, the time might be up for both of these Premier League-winning wingers.
It remains to be seen how the club is able to upgrade on the position beyond a move for Tzolis - which, in itself, is not confirmed yet. They are exploring it, and. it would be interesting to follow over the summer.
