Arsenal seek to maintain English football's best-ever record when Fulham visit

Can Arsenal pick up three more priceless points in the Premier League title race? Following back-to-back defeats, the Gunners got back on track last weekend; Eberechi Eze's screamer ultimately enough to overcome Newcastle. Since then, Mikel Arteta's team have been to Madrid and back, earning a 1-1 draw during the first leg of their Champions League semi-final with Atlético.

Coming in-between two massive European ties, Saturday's must-win clash with Fulham is never likely to be straight-forward, but history suggests the Gunners will collect the result they require.

Thus, the Gunners' undefeated home record vs the Cottagers is the most occasions any club in English football history has ever hosted another without ever tasting defeat.

Of course, simply avoiding defeat on Saturday evening is not an option for Arteta's team. The Whites have caused Arsenal problems in recent times, drawing two of their last four visits to the Emirates, as well as beating them 2-1 at Craven Cottage on New Year's Eve 2023, a result that would essentially cost them the title five months down the line.

The data shows that Fulham are, by an enormous distance, the opposition Arsenal have played host to the most times without tasting defeat. The Cottagers' 33 visits without victory is 20 more than anyone else. Second on the list Grimsby Town most-recently met the Gunners a quarter of a century ago, with that the duo's only clash for 78 years.

Reading, Plymouth, Oxford United, Barnsley and Rotherham are the only other English clubs to make it on to the list. While that may sound like Spurs' fixture list next season, Arsenal continue to battle for the biggest prizes this sport has on offer. The Emirates will be rocking on Tuesday night when Simeone's side come to town but, before then, they cannot afford a slip-up against Fulham.
