Arsenal are set to have direct talks with Chelsea soon to discuss a potential deal to sign Noni Madueke, according to multiple reports.

The Gunners have been exploring a possible move for the winger over the past weeks and have already agreed personal terms for a five-year deal with him, but are now set to talk directly to his club.

Mikel Arteta's side have a clear interest in signing Madueke, but fans don't seem so convinced. Plenty have disagreed with the idea of bringing yet another Chelsea player to the club, but it does seem as if he could be on his way to north London.

Arsenal to have direct talks to discuss Noni Madueke deal

Until this stage in negotiations, Arsenal had undergone talks through intermediaries and have spoken to people who have worked with Madueke as part of their exploration of him.

The Gunners are now set to contact Chelsea directly, but there could be an issue in the forthcoming negotiations. There is said to be a gap in valuation between the clubs, but talks will follow to understand how to proceed, if they are to.

The Blues intend to use Anthony Elanga's £55million move to Newcastle as a guide when they value Madueke, due to their similarity in age and profile. That would likely be out of the question for Arsenal.

Arteta is most likely interested in bringing the England international to the club to act as cover for Bukayo Saka, but that would be a lot to pay out for such a player. He would be a good addition and would be a suitable backup to his compatriot, but it is very unlikely the Gunners will be willing to fork out such a huge amount.

That is where fans disagree with a potential deal. Everyone knows he's a good player, but to be paying a big fee for someone who would essentially be a backup would be a bit bizarre. Added to the fact he would be yet another incoming from Chelsea, it's hard to disagree with fans who are uncertain.

Regardless, Arsenal are big fans of Madueke and their intention to open talks with Chelsea show they do want a move to materialise. If they can negotiate a cheaper price, then it could be a good signing, but talks will surely have to end if their rivals don't budge. These initial talks will likely be a crucial point in deciding if the Gunners go ahead with a deal.
