Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak has revealed his desire to stay at Newcastle United if they qualify for the Champions League, despite Mikel Arteta’s interest.
Alexander Isak is one of the best strikers in the world. Certainly, he is an asset to Newcastle United and the fans there will feel thankful that the Swedish striker remains a Magpie, despite being linked to some top clubs over the last few seasons.
Earlier this season, Alexander Isak scored against Arsenal at St James Park. It was in this match that the difference between Arsenal and Newcastle was shown; unlike the Gunners, the Magpies have a reliable goal-scorer who can bag goals for them.
This only added to the discourse that Arsenal need to sign a striker, with many believing that Alexander Isak is the perfect option.
Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak deals blow to Mikel Arteta
According to a report from The Sun, Alexander Isak is certainly open to staying at Newcastle United beyond this season, especially if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League. This could come as a potential blow to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, who are cited within the report as interested in Isak.
Sources close to the player have told The Sun that he is desperate to play in the UEFA Champions League. However, he is confident that he doesn't need to look externally for this, as it could be achieved (again) with Newcastle.
Last season, Newcastle were in the Champions League after finishing in the top four of the Premier League. They played some pretty incredible football, winning against PSG at St James Park, before being eliminated controversially from the group stage.
So, the Magpies will feel like they have some unfinished business and they would like to return to the Champions League. Their route to doing so would be by finishing in the top four of the Premier League.
Given that many of the usual top-four competing sides are struggling for form and points this season, Newcastle could capitalise on this and finish within the top four themselves.
The Geordies are currently fifth in the Premier League table. However, there are only three points which seperate them and Chelsea in fourth. Therefore, they have just as much chance as anyone else to return to the Champions League next season.
From Arsenal's perspective, let's hope that Newcastle don't finish in the top four. This way, it could convince Isak to look elsewhere.
