Arsenal vs Everton match preview

The games keep coming thick and fast for Arsenal, so can they continue to build momentum? On Wednesday night, the Gunners earned a very valuable and impressive point against Bayern Munich at the Allianz. Eberechi Eze opened the scoring, a goal given after VAR review, only for Bayern to lead; Harry Kane converting his customary spot-kick. However, eight minutes from time, after some nice work with Viktor Gyökeres, Declan Rice lashed home the equaliser, securing a well-earned point.

Back in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta's team have won six out of seven so far, that blip at Brighton the exception. Last Sunday, after a game of very few chances, Noni Madueke's deflected strike ten minutes from the end snatched victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Next weekend, Arsenal will take on Liverpool, seeking a first victory at Anfield since Arteta was still playing in 2012. Before then, can the Gunners collect three points here?

As for visitors Everton, it is tough to know quite how good they are. Last time out, David Moyes' men were beaten for the first time this season, losing 2-0 when Chelsea visited Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Before that though, the Toffees had drawn four of six matches, only managing to beat Crystal Palace and Ipswich to date, both on Merseyside. Nevertheless, the Blues' aim is to qualify for Europe and, currently eighth in the table, are on course to get back into UEFA competition for the first time since Arsène Wenger was Arsenal manager.

Everton at the Emirates was one of the best moments of last season's title-winning campaign. Gyökeres broke the deadlock in the final minute of the 90, before Max Dowman scored that goal in stoppage time to secure a massive win. As the pair meet again for the first time since, gooners are surely expecting an equally tough test from the Toffees.

Bukayo Saka hobbled off just ten minutes into Wednesday's clash in Bavaria, with Mikel Arteta confirming that he will undergo "another MRI" on Friday afternoon "to understand the extent of the injury". In short though, it does not sound good. With Christos Tzolis also sidelined, it'll once again be Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze out-wide, after both impressed in mid-week.

Elsewhere, Benjamin White is likely to be rotated in for Jurriën Timber at right-back, while will Bruno Guimarães keep his place, or could Myles Lewis-Skelly return in midfield? Viktor Gyökeres scored home and away against Everton last season, so could he repeat this trick?

Everton team news

As has been well documented, David Moyes only has a small squad of 18 senior outfield players, limiting his options. Ainsley Maitland-Niles will start against his former club at right-back, while Christian Nørgaard made his Everton debut last weekend, following a groin injury.

Predicted Line-ups

  • Everton predicted lineup: Pickford; Maitland-Niles, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Garner, Armstrong, Dewsbury-Hall; Röhl, Grealish, Barry.
